62ND EMMY AWARDS' RED CARPET REPORT
Monday, August 30, 2010Mad Men won its third Outstanding Drama Series accolade at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards. I've been meaning to watch it - mostly out of curiosity - but couldn't find the time. My personal choice for the award is still ABC's Grey's Anatomy or Brothers & Sisters, despite the fact that they were both snubbed once again and were robbed of a nomination.
Crowd favorite Glee won several awards but it doesn't include the Outstanding Comedy Series award that everyone is expecting them to get. The award deservingly went to Modern Family. Gleek Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester) won the Supporting Actress plum but fellow cast mate Lea Michele (Rachel Berry) failed to get the top actress honors.
As usual, here are my personal red carpet observations, likes and dislikes. There were so many bombs (compared to their movie star counterparts at the Oscar's) but there were also a few notable ones. The most popular and recurring theme of the night was "Goddess White". Black is still the safe choice for some but I've never seen so many white in the red carpet until last night. Special mention to Julie Benz and Kim Kardashian for glamorously pulling it off.
Kim Kardashian, Julie Benz, Brooke Burke, Rose Bryne
Here are my favorites and not-so favorites on TV's biggest night. I categorized it to likes, so-so and dislikes. Enjoy! (Warning: This post is fully-loaded with images.)
LIKES
I realized that my best choices are either those in really dark hues (black, navy blue) or very light hues (white, beige). But some of them are in the same style - check out the outfits of Jayma, Eva, Jane Krakowski and Julie Bowen - almost the same cut and color.
Dexter star Julie Benz in a Pamella Roland
This is my favorite outfit at the Emmy's. I love the asymmetrical design
and the cut-out hip detail. The over-all look is really nice!
Glee's Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum
Eva Longoria Parker in Robert Rodriguez
Nina Dobrev looks super on this Zuhair Murad outfit.
Yahoo! OMG gave its only A+ rating on her.
Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter in Oday Shakar
The goddess that is Kim Kardashian in Marchesa
Modern Family's Julie Bowen in Jane Mendel
Tina Fey in Oscar Dela Renta
I love the simplicity of this gown.
My friend, Tin, thinks it's conservative but fabulous.
Cheryl Hines in Zac Posen
Here are two personal favorites of mine that may not be a common like to the rest of the fashion world. My love for layers, draping and asymmetrical are embodied on these two designs.
Jane Krakowski in Escada and Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan
So-so
Here are my runners-up in the red carpet. It's so-so for me but some of these outfits were amazingly talked about and some of the stars even reached Twitter's Top Trending (TT) while the Emmy is being televised.
Glee star Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera
I like the vintage and the classy feel of this gown.
Lea Michele in Oscar Dela Renta
I would've loved this if the layers are not too much and if Lea's
hair is on an up-do. I can't help but compare her outfit to
Kirsten Stewart's Oscar's ensemble (No, I am NOT a Twilight fan).
Heidi Klum in Marchesa
This is the most-talked about Emmy outfit! Way to go, Ms. Klum!
Claire Danes on Armani Prive
The gown is really nice but it lack accessories.
And Claire looks bare...and really really old.
Jewel in Zuhair Murad
Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier
I'm torn about this outfit. But since it's on my favorite color...so be it.
Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward
Runners-up
Emily Blunt in Christian Dior, Best Supporting Actress Jane Lynch in Ali Rahimi
and Best Actress Kyra Sedgwick in Monique Lhuiller.
Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera, Maria Menoumos in Ralph & Russo and
Lauren Sanchez.
DISLIKES
My prom gowns and bridesmaid dresses are way better than these outfits. Que horror!
Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen
This is the Best Worst Dress at the Emmy's.
It's very edgy & McQueen but I find it ugly. Sorry.
Kate Gosselin in Carmen Marc Galvo
Looks like she has 8 kids on this outfit! Hehe!
Office star Mindy Kaling in Aguri Sagamori
Need I say more?
January Jones in Atelier Versace
Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen
OTHERS
Lauren Bosworth, Naya Rivera and Ariel Winter
Eva La Rue, Mary Hart and Stephanie Pratt
There were some really cool designers who stood out at the Emmy's Red Carpet (like Zuhair Murad) amidst the Dela Renta and Herrera classics. These TV stars are okay but I must say that movie star fashions at the Oscar's and at the Golden Globes are still way, way better. Until next year!
