CONGRATULATIONS, VENUS!
Tuesday, August 24, 2010I stopped watching Miss Universe (or any other beauty pageants for that matter) years ago. It's just like the Olympics, we send the best we have but we still go home without a medal or a crown no matter how much we try.
This year's competition is quite different. It sparked a lot of interest because Philippines' bet, Venus Raj, was dethroned as the country's representative only to be reinstated again after weeks of appeal, Internet uproar, negotiations and controversies.
The quest for the crown and Venus' fight was all worth it because she finished Fourth Runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant among 83 beauties from all over the world. This is the Philippines' best ever finish since Miriam Quiambao's First Runner-up placement in 1999. This is also the first time in 11 years that Philippines placed in the final and semi-final rounds.
The winner of this year's Miss Universe is Jimena Navarette of Guadalajara, Mexico. I really like her beauty and was also rooting for her to win. She's beautiful, charming and witty. My friend, Charu, says she looks a tiny, tiny bit like Tina Fey.
Congratulations, Venus & Jimena! You made your countries proud in a 'major, major' way!
UPDATE: This is how much the Filipinos loved and cheered for Venus Raj. Check out the video: http://youtu.be/-HePTmrV-og
