NEW YEAR EATS AT VIKINGS JAZZ

I was doing my usual Internet stuff last Friday when I chanced upon Animetric's post on Vikings Luxury Buffet at SM Jazz. They are offering 30% off for January 2 - 3 just by liking their Facebook Page. You see, I've never been to Vikings. Everyone I know even my mom, boyfriend, etc. have already experienced eating like a viking in Vikings. I was so excited with the discount so I immediately messaged the boyfriend and reserved for dinner at Vikings in the new SM Jazz in Makati.
This branch of Vikings at SM Jazz accepts reservations. The first Vikings branch, the one at By The Bay at SM Mall of Asia, also accepts but you have to reserve two weeks in advance. Their queue goes up to 60+ for walk-ins even on a weekday.
So, without further ado - here's my Vikings Jazz verdict...and the gazilion food photos...
The Good
- This Vikings branch is located in a new condo-mall in Nicanor Garcia in Makati. Parking is easier, reservations and walk-in lines are also easier compared to other branches.
- The rate is also more affordable compared to Niu by Vkings and SM Mall of Asia branches. The most expensive is the Php 888+ for adults for dinner.
- The seats and designs are very comfortable and nice-looking.
- They offer a wide variety of unlimited drinks - from draft beer to Milo shake.
- They have soups! This is a plus for me!
- Good customer service from the staff. They offer to bring in drinks and food in your area.
- All the dishes are in the middle of the restaurant. Nice lay-out of the place.
- The washrooms are nice.
The Bad
- The place is not as big compared to the other branches. Food are also limited as well (according to the boyfriend).
- The servers and chefs need to refill the food as fast as they can especially for popular dishes like Ebi Tempura.
- The sashimi and sushi are so so. This has always been our ultimate measure when it comes to buffets since we are such Japanese fans. So far Dad's Ultimate Buffet tops our list.
- There is no Hakao/Steamed Shrimp Dumplings when we dined. I know that they offer this because I saw photos of it in other blogs.
- Limited Filipino food. No Sinigang Na Karne/Baboy. Enough said.
- No Lechon but they have Lechon Belly (yummy but not the same). I don't really eat Lechon that much but what's a feast without a roasted pig?
Must-Try Food
Buffets are marathons and not sprints and thou shall not over indulge in one particular dish. Here are some of my personal recommendations at Vikings Jazz:
- Beef Teppanyaki - this is my absolute favorite in Vikings.
- California Maki
- Japanese Rice - one of the best I had
- Tom Yum Soup
- Make your own Shabu-Shabu
- Pork Siomai
- Taho Shooters
- Slow-Roasted US Angus Beef Belly
- Sisig Rice - this looks yummy but I wasn't able to try it
Japanese - always in the first round!
The Carving Station with all the imaginable gluttonous carnivores you desire
Dimsums and dumplings. This could be improved with more choices. Too bad there's no Hakaw when we dined.
Shabu-shabu your way!
Greeting everyone in the first buffet area are local delicacies (or kakanin) like taho, bibingka, puto, and the like.
They also have a whole slew of diabetes delights that you can think of (I actually skipped this area).
